Fleeting Seasons Collection
INSIDE THE SKETCHBOOK 2024
THE LANDSCAPES
The inspiration for this collection came in late January. We were having gloriously heavy downfalls of snow - and let's face it, pretty much everything is more enchanting with a layer of powdery snow.
I immediately wanted to capture the beauty of the snow, but not exactly as I saw it. I challenged myself to use unexpected colors, depicting familiar scenes in an unlikely way.
Each one became a meditation of color.
FIELD TRIP 1 : A nearby park.
When the weather warmed up, my collection evolved even further, this time into a lesson of impermanence.
Snow melted into mud and my landscapes adapted. Though my subject was admittedly not as beautiful, I was challenged to find the magic in the mundane.
FIELD TRIP 2 : A nearby hiking trail
During my research for this collection, I learned how to see the splendor in my own surroundings.
Enchanted by places in my own backyard that I otherwise would have totally missed.
These paintings taught me that nothing is permanent and nothing lasts forever. Connecting my meditations of color to a meditation of awareness.
THE MINI ABSTRACTS
I worked on these mini abstracts alongside my landscapes, using the leftover paint from my palette.
Each one became is a color study of its own and furthered my explorations of mark making and expressive brushstrokes.
